Building the Village: Reimagining Pregnancy Loss Care with Lune Health

October is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month. It’s a time to name what is often unspoken, honor the grief that too many families carry quietly, and recognize how deeply loss shapes the experience of parenthood.

Miscarriage is the most common complication of pregnancy. One in four pregnancies ends in loss, and yet the emotional, physical, and mental health needs of grieving families often go unseen or unsupported. In many cases, families are left to navigate their grief in silence — without clear medical guidance, emotional care, or even acknowledgment of what they’ve endured.

At Aspen Grove Counseling & Wellness, we believe that showing up for families means showing up for all of parenthood — including its hardest and most heartbreaking parts. Loss deserves care. Grief deserves language. And families deserve more than “you’re not alone” — they deserve to feel that truth reflected in the care systems around them.

That’s why, in this special installment of our Building the Village blog series, we’re honored to feature Lune Health: The Miscarriage Clinic, founded by midwife Hannah Meurer . Lune is currently working to become the first dedicated miscarriage clinic in the United States, offering trauma-informed medical care, mental health support, and a safe space for healing. Through her work, Hannah is reimagining what pregnancy loss care can look like — and inviting all of us to do the same.

Getting to Know Lune Health, The Miscarriage Clinic

Welcome, Hannah, and thank you for sharing your story with us! Can you start by telling us a little about yourself and the work you do?

“I am a certified nurse-midwife and pregnancy loss mom who has made it my personal mission to humanize the miscarriage experience and has founded the only miscarriage specialty clinic in the United States, Lune Health. I have delivered hundreds of living babies and feel just as honored to walk with women through their pregnancy loss journeys.”

Will you offer in-person, virtual, or hybrid services?

“Once we open, we will be offering both in person and telehealth medical care. In the interim, we are offering free consultations to those who need support and resources as they navigate pregnancy loss.”

What inspired you to start working with new and soon-to-be parents?

“Ever since I can remember I have loved helping people, was fascinated by medicine, and was a natural nurturer. Becoming a midwife was the most beautiful fit. I have always adored the relationships I build with my clients and have never considered it a job. It's a honor to hold this space and walk alongside families. Personally, my childbearing years - experiencing both life and loss - radically changed my role as a midwife and inspired my passion to change pregnancy loss care in our country!”

What are some of the common challenges your clients face in early parenthood, and how do you support them through that?

“Common challenges include lack of support, feeling isolated, mental health struggles, and (even if you have a living child) grieving. We hold space in postpartum and beyond, provide resources, education, referrals, and I provide holistic and medical treatment many women for postpartum mood disorders.”

What makes your approach unique or different from others in your field?

“No one has created a specialty for pregnancy loss. It is a form disenfranchised grief and is culturally ignored. There are so many gaps in miscarriage care - from the triggering environment we force families into, to cost of care, lack of mental health support, no postpartum visits, misguided medical care, lack of testing options, the list goes on and on. We exist to stand in those gaps for families and change the culture of pregnancy loss.”

Become a loss care REBEL

That vision — to close the gaps in care and create something radically more supportive — is what drives REBEL, Lune Health’s national campaign to reimagine how we care for families after pregnancy loss.

Launched this October in honor of Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month, REBEL invites those who have been touched by miscarriage — directly or indirectly — to become part of a growing movement.

💛 “If everyone touched by pregnancy loss gave just $5,” Hannah says, “we could transform care nationwide.”

REBEL’s goal is both simple and revolutionary: to rally awareness, raise funds, and launch the country’s first miscarriage clinic, offering medical care, mental health support, and a safe place for healing. Lune Health is leading the charge — and the ripple effect has already begun.

Even small acts of support matter. Whether it’s donating $5, sharing the campaign, or wearing your story with pride through REBEL merch, you’re helping make this future possible.

Whether you’re leading a national campaign or supporting someone one-on-one, what moments in this work feel especially meaningful or rewarding to you?

“My most rewarding moments are when I have clients who have experienced birth/medical trauma and we are able to partner together to process through their previous experience then hold space for an empowered and safe current experience, even if the outcome deters from the plan.”

There are so many gaps in miscarriage care - from the triggering environment we force families into, to cost of care, lack of mental health support, no postpartum visits, misguided medical care, lack of testing options, the list goes on and on. We exist to stand in those gaps for families and change the culture of pregnancy loss.
— Hannah Meurer, Lune Health

Can you share one thing you wish all new parents knew or believed about themselves?

“Prioritizing your mental health is the best gift you can give yourself, your child (or future children), and your family. You are exactly what your child needs.”

What’s something you wish more people understood or asked about your work?

“I wish more people understood how common miscarriage is (1 in 4 pregnancies), not to minimize it but to realize the community you have. Look around at the grocery store and count off 1 in 4 - thats a lot. I wish more people understood the implications of untreated mental health.”

How can someone know if your service might be a good fit for them?

“Reach out! You can always schedule a consultation. If you are going through a miscarriage, chances are we can help in some way or point you to someone who can.”

We’re deeply grateful to Hannah and Lune Health for the work they’re doing to change how we care for families navigating pregnancy loss. Their vision — one that centers compassion, expertise, and community — reflects what we believe is possible for the future of reproductive care.
