Finding your Georgia Therapist

Decatur Therapists Providing Counseling Online and In the Office

You’ve been holding so much for so long.

Maybe things look fine on the outside - you're functioning, doing what needs to be done. But inside, something feels off. You're tired in a way that rest doesn’t reach. Your thoughts feel loud and tangled. And your relationships - with your partner, your family, even yourself - feel strained, stuck, or distant.

Helping You Navigate Life’s Hardest Moments with Compassion and Clarity

Are you facing a major life change, grieving a deep loss, or struggling with anxiety that just won’t let up? You don’t have to figure it out on your own. As a Georgia therapist, I help individuals and couples move through emotional pain and uncertainty with support, insight, and warmth.

I specialize in working with people experiencing life transitions—whether that’s adjusting to parenthood, navigating relationship changes, coping with a career shift, or dealing with the grief that comes from losing someone or something important. My clients often describe feeling “stuck” when we first meet, unsure of how to move forward. Together, we create a space where they can breathe, reflect, and begin to heal.

As someone who has navigated significant transitions in my own life, I understand how disorienting change can feel. That personal perspective helps me hold space for your unique experience—especially when life feels messy or uncertain.

In our work, I bring a calming, down-to-earth presence that invites openness and connection. I meet clients where they are—with no pressure to have it all figured out—and support them in building greater self-awareness, confidence, and clarity.

I have a special place in my work for parents navigating the complexities of raising children with emotional or behavioral challenges. Parenthood can be both joyful and overwhelming, and I believe that compassionate support can make a real difference.

I’m equally dedicated to helping couples who are facing conflict, disconnection, or major life transitions. Whether you’re looking to repair communication or reconnect after a period of strain, I offer a nonjudgmental space for both partners to feel heard and supported.

I hold a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Capella University and I’m licensed in the state of Georgia as an Associate Professional Counselor (APC010193). I’m also trained in the Gottman Method for couples therapy, a research-based approach that helps partners strengthen connection, improve communication, and repair conflict in meaningful ways. I receive clinical supervision from S. LaShay Dowley PhD (c), LPC and Amy Robbins LPC CPCS, and direction and secondary supervision from Jaime Filler LMFT.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed, uncertain, or simply in need of someone who truly listens, I’d be honored to walk with you. Together, we can create a path forward that feels grounded and true to you.

You’re holding it together, for your partner, your baby, your family, your job but inside, you feel like you’re coming undone. You’re not even sure who you are anymore. You used to feel like a whole person; now you feel more like a role to play: the strong one, the caregiver, the one who keeps it all moving.

You’re exhausted by the weight of everything, the silent tension in your relationship, the pressure to keep showing up, the emotional toll of holding space for someone in recovery or someone who just can’t meet you emotionally. You miss feeling connected to your partner, to yourself and to the life you imagined.

Maybe you’ve found yourself snapping more often, or crying alone in the bathroom, or wondering quietly, “Is this it? Is this all there is?” You want to believe that things can feel different and that you can come home to yourself again but you’re scared to say it out loud. You just know you can’t keep doing it like this.

I help women who feel lost in the chaos of caregiving, new motherhood, or life transitions reconnect with themselves and their truth. Many of my clients come to therapy during times of identity confusion, emotional disconnection, or relationship strain, especially when they’ve spent years prioritizing everyone else’s needs over their own, including caring for a loved one navigating addiction or recovery.

Together, we slow things down. I create a space that’s calm, grounded, and emotionally real — where you don’t have to perform or have it all figured out. I’m not here to fix you or give quick advice. I’m here to help you listen inward, to make space for the parts of you that have been silenced or buried under responsibility, resentment, or grief.

Clients often tell me therapy with me feels like a pause — a place where they can finally exhale. Over time, they begin to recognize themselves again. They start to set boundaries, speak their truth, and feel more rooted in who they are. The goal goes beyond survival and instead it beomes to feel alive and aligned inside it.

If you’re ready to stop holding it all in and start coming back to yourself — in your relationship, in your motherhood, in your life — I invite you to reach out for a free 15-minute consultation. Together, we’ll explore whether therapy can be the safe space where you finally feel seen, supported, and steady again. You don’t have to do this alone.

I am a Licensed Associate Professional Counselor (APC) with a Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and a Graduate Certificate in Trauma from Richmont Graduate University. I have specialized training in Gottman Level 1, Prepare/Enrich, Trauma Focused-CBT, DBT, Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), and somatic therapy, as well as ongoing study in polyvagal theory and attachment-based work. I draw from psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral, and interpersonal approaches, and brings clinical experience from outpatient, recovery, and family systems settings. My work is trauma-informed, relational, and rooted in deep respect for each client’s lived story.

I am supervised by S. LaShay Dowley PhD (c), LPC and receive clinical direction from Jaime Filler LMFT. I offer both in-person and virtual sessions.

Kateryna Sovshchak, Master’s of Counseling Intern

You love each other, but lately it feels like you’re speaking different languages. Every conversation turns into tension. Affection feels distant. And the partnership you imagined — one built on connection, intimacy, and support — now feels heavy with resentment, silence, or overwhelm.

Maybe you’re new parents, trying to figure out who you are now that everything has changed. Or maybe you’ve been together for years, and you’re wondering how you drifted so far apart. You miss the warmth. The closeness. The ease. And underneath it all, you’re both asking: Can we get back to each other?

I help couples find their way back to emotional and physical connection — not through surface-level strategies, but through meaningful, honest work that honors the emotional layers beneath your disconnection. Whether you’re navigating the transition to parenthood, struggling with intimacy, or feeling stuck in painful patterns, I offer a space that is steady, collaborative, and deeply respectful of both partners’ experiences.

In addition to working with couples, I support individuals who feel overwhelmed by caregiving, identity shifts, and the quiet grief of losing touch with themselves. As a parent and someone who has built a life in a new culture, I bring personal insight into the complexities of caregiving, cultural identity, and belonging. My goal is to create a space where your experiences can be voiced, explored, and met with compassion — even the ones you’ve had to carry alone.

I draw from emotionally focused therapy (EFT), the Gottman Method (Level 1), trauma-informed care, and psychodynamic approaches to help you understand the emotional cycles you’re stuck in and create new ways of relating. I welcome clients from all backgrounds and identities, and I’m especially passionate about supporting those navigating major life transitions, relational rupture, and cultural adjustment.

Kateryna Sovshchak is a graduate intern completing her final year in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling program at Richmont Graduate University. She works under the supervision of Jaime Filler, LMFT, PMH-C, and offers therapy at a reduced rate for both individuals and couples. Kateryna sees clients in person and virtually.

Jaime Filler, LMFT, PMH-C, Clinical Director

Jaime Filler is a Therapist in Decatur GA Specializing in Pregnancy and Postpartum

The decision to begin therapy can be a difficult one. It is my goal to build a strong relationship with each person who comes to my office, to help them feel comfortable so they can fully benefit from the therapeutic process. In therapy, I often use humor to put my clients at ease and lighten the mood when it is appropriate. My collaborative and supportive approach allows my clients to draw on their own strengths to overcome current obstacles and begin to make positive changes in their lives.

I utilize an integrative approach to therapy. This means what works for one person does not always work for another and I tailor my approach to fit each unique client. In my practice, I use evidenced-based therapeutic methods, such as cognitive behavioral therapy and mindfulness, in addition to family systems theory. I am also trained in the Gottman Method for couple’s therapy and EMDR for trauma.

I have experience working with a variety of issues that impact adults, couples, and families. My areas of focus include maternal mental health, anxiety, depression, trauma, life transitions, and relationship problems. I am particularly passionate about working with women and their partners who are struggling with the challenges that come with becoming a new parent. I am a certified Gottman Bringing Baby Home Program Educator, and provide workshops to help couples in the transition to parenthood.

I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT001198) , Certified Perinatal Mental Health Specialist (PMH-C), and AAMFT Approved Clinical Supervisor. I earned a Master of Science in Clinical Psychology from San Jose State University, and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of California, Santa Barbara. I’m a member of Postpartum Support International and a clinical member of the Georgia Association of Marriage & Family Therapists and the American Association for Marriage & Family Therapists.

I offer both in-person and virtual sessions.

On a personal note, I enjoy traveling and exploring new cultures, cooking, practicing yoga and getting out into nature with my family.

Jaime’s specialties include pregnancy and postpartum therapy, anxiety therapy, therapy for depression, grief and loss counseling, couples therapy, and workshops for new parents.

Jaime’s session rates are $185 (50-minute session) and $280 (75-minute session)
